Meadow Pond Stables’ Show Team is wrapping up it’s 8th successful season of competition, making National standings yet again in 2009.
This Liverpool based group of riders competes in shows sanctioned by the National Reining Horse Association, the world-wide governing body for the sport of Reining. Reining is a judged event designed to demonstrate ability of a western show horse within the confines of an arena. Contestants are required to run one of eleven approved patterns with complete accuracy. Each pattern includes circles of varrying speed, flying lead changes, 360 degree spins, and exciting sliding stops which are the trademark of the Reining horse. The sport is among the fastest growing of equestrian disciplines, and provides a place for riders of all levels to compete.
Highly accomplished horseman and long-time Meadow Pond Stables show team member, Jesse Oickle, 18, graduated from Liverpool Regional High School in June of 2009 and has recently returned from an internship in Scottsdale Arizona with World Equestrian Games gold medalist and Reining trainer, Matt Mills of Out West Stallion Station. Jesse attended NRHA events in the US during his stay, and looks forward to returning to Meadow Pond Stables.

In Quebec, Oickle and ‘Smalldarkandhandsome’ competed against the best riders on the east coast to bring home 10th place award in a very competitive NRHA Affiliate Championship Youth 14-18 division. She was also the driving force in earning 3rd place at the NRHA Youth Team Tournament, along with 2 other members from other provinces. Her team received a generous scholarship from NRHA to be used toward continuing education in horsemanship, and a bronze medal issued from a visiting NRHA representative from Oklahoma City.

Day two of the show saw repeat performances and placings, with the pair bringing home 4 NRHA plaques in total.

She was presented an award from NRHA headquarters, along with the other top 5 riders from each Affiliate Championship division.
Coach and NRHA Professional Holly MacDonald is excited about the programs available to Maritime competitors and currently sits on the board of directors for Reining Canada, the National affiliate for NRHA, as well as the Canadian Reining Committee which oversees International competition opportunities for riders of all ages through Equine Canada and Federation Equestre Internationale.
